Snowday Monday

Spring in Minnesota, you gotta love it! It has been snowing here all day. Yesterday it was mid-50's. I am not too upset about today's weather as I am in sweats and I am not leaving the house. Today gave me a good opportunity to start my annual spring decluttering. I also had time to plan out my weekly running goal.

Running:

Monday-2.0

Tuesday-2.0 (gym)

Wednesday-2.5 and cross train

Thursday-2.5

Friday-Day of Rest

Saturday-3.0

Sunday-cross train

***EDIT***
I did not run today when hubby got home. By 6pm the roads were nasty.

Back At It...

2.25 miles completed.

Uff da (said in my best thick MN accent)!!! Almost 3 weeks of not doing any activity really brought me back down to square one. Rather than focus on the negatives of this run I am going to find the silver lining.

I got out on a beautiful Spring day.
I ran most of my mileage. I only had 1 walk break that was about 3 blocks long.
I got to jam out to my IPod.
I didn't get flipped off today.
I got out and did activity rather than dive into a bag of chips. That was yesterday's activity.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

That is all I have today. I am going to focus on getting comfortable with my 3 mile loop again then hit half marathon training hard.

Friday!

Thank you everyone for the advice! I am going to start building up my base again and as suggested, get my 6, 8, and 10 mile run in before the race. I have over 12 weeks to get ready and that should be plenty of time. I just started to freak out because I am very schedule driven. My baby brother knows me so well, indeed a DQ cake as incentive would get me off my duff. Although...I did just give up sugar (again).

I have been MIA. I still have not been running. The wave a sickness that hit this house really knocked me on my rear. I have just been taking it easy and getting over the post sickness fatigue. I didn't see the point to add another post bitching about not feeling well. The good news is that I am starting to feel like myself again and I will be back to my regular scheduled runs very soon. One positive with this sickness is that my scale is starting to move. In "The Devil Wears Prada", there is a quote that I can relate to, "I am one stomach virus away from my goal weight". Whatever works, right?

Since I have been taking a breather, I have been playing with my new toy that I got in Vegas. I have only had it a few days and already my family and friends are sick of me a) following them around with a camera, b) talking about photography. They will have to put up with me until the novelty wears off.

Making up for Lost Time

With all the shenanigans of the last couple of weeks, my pathetic little base I built up is shot. I was running up to 3 miles and felt pretty confident about how well I was doing. Now the mere thought of putting my running shoes on makes me cringe.

Today is supposed to be the start of week 3 of my half-mary training program. I don't think I could run 3 miles to save my life. Dropping out of the race is not an option. I am hell bent on doing it. The race isn't until June 21st, but I want to catch up with training.

This is the program I am following:
http://www.grandmasmarathon.com/pdf/NoviceHalf2008.pdf

People of Blogland, how do I make up for lost time and training????

Do I run 2x a day?
Do I start over from week 1?
Do I start week 3 and run what I can?
Do I find a new training program?

Thoughts? This setback is getting me down.

Blogging Instead of Running

Too bad I can't count blog surfing as exercise because today I did A LOT! I wish I could have gone out for a run today but it didn't happen. As my hubby and assumed the position.....him playing Wii and me with my trusty laptop, he gave me a site to check out.

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com

I visited this blog and got a good laugh. Check out #27, I think there are a lot of us that can related to this one. ENJOY!

Back to Reality

I just came home from Las Vegas. I went out there to go to the WPPI conference. It was crazy! Over 10,000 photographers from all over the world came together to talk shop, learn new tricks, and of course walk away with even less money in their pockets.

I wasn't able to run while I was out there. I did bring my running gear and I did set out to do a workout, but I simply ran out of time. Since this was my first year at this conference I wanted to get the most out of my time there. Do I get points for trying? On the flip side, I didn't party either. Frankly, I am rather shocked about not whooping it up while in Vegas, I was there on St. Patty's Day and did not have kiddos. to worry about. Who am I?

I am way behind in training now, but at least my mileage on the schedule isn't too bad. I am going to kick it into gear this weekend and get back on a regular schedule. Even though I didn't run, I probably walked at least 5 miles everyday. I noticed the scale was down a bit. Not much, but still down.

Now I am back to reality and trying to get back into a routine. It has been too long since things have been "normal" in this house. Things got so out of whack with everyone sick and my being gone. Everyone seems healthy now, I hope this last bout sickness is it for a long long time.

Vegas Baby!

Photobucket

It is close to 10PM and I am leaving for Vegas in the morning, 5:30AM to be exact, for the WPPI Convention. I am packed? No. Is my house clean? No. So why am I wasting time blogging? Well, I am waiting for my laundry to be done. Typical Carly move before a trip.

I had a wardrobe meltdown today. I have (had) absolutely nothing in my closet that fits me for a spring-like climate. Last year I was pregnant, and the year before that I was close to my goal weight. I had to suck it up and buy something in a bigger size. Is it just me, or are the clothes beyond fugly right now? WTF is up with the maternity cut tops???? I just got out of those clothes and the last thing I want is someone coming up to me and patting the muffin top mistaking me for being pregnant. That is my rant on the clothes. Maybe if I wasn't so chubby right now I would feel different. I did find stuff and I am going to look cute. Everything item (almost) in my whole freaking suitcase still has tag on them. (Thank God for Target and Old Navy to get a girl some cheap threads)

My first week of half marathon training was a joke. Rather than 15 miles logged this week, I logged 2.25. I will do better this week now that I am starting to feel better. The second week isn't much different from the first week. I do have my running gear packed. One way or another, I will get my workouts in even if I have to walk/run. At least it is only the first week of training...easy peasy to make up.

The flu came flu circle in our house. Middle munchkin got it yesterday and was down and out today. I am still not myself and used good judgement not to run this weekend. I couldn't even eat, let alone workout. I am praying for a better week ahead and no more illnesses! Even Babydiva is doing better. We figured out her antibiotic was making her do her fun puking tricks.

I am off for a few days to learn me something about photography!

Vive Las Vegas!!!! ( I hope to come back rich)

Wacky Wednesday

Photobucket

I have never been so happy to do laundry in my life. The repairman just left. As the door closed behind him, I sprinted downstairs to throw in the first load. I bet I have 15 loads on deck. I have so much laundry that I have it micro sorted. With 5 people in this house, I have a load of just socks.

I had to laugh because when the repair guy came in the door, I had a trashy chick novel out, shopping bags by the door, and I had candy on the counter, all while I was working on my computer (legitimately working). I must have painted a great image of a day in the life of a stay at home mom this guy's head. He must think that all SAHMs really do sit on their ass and eat bonbons. Especially when he saw the piles of dirty laundry downstairs.

Much to my dismay, my laundry room was flooded when the drain backed up from doing said first load of clothes. I am cursing the 60 year old plumbing in this house! I love my little house, but again these are the days I wish I had a new, built from scratch house. That repairman is coming tomorrow. Even a flood can't kill my joy over a working washer and dryer.

Babydiva is still sick. She is still puking and has decided to add the element from the other end. My hands are raw from the OCD washing. I just called my boss and dropped the bomb that I am cutting the day short again tomorrow. I am praying I don't catch this. I leave on Sunday for Vegas.

I may have a sense of humor about the shit storm we are going through right now but I am a raging bitch at the same time. My poor little guys got an earful this morning on our way to school. I lost it around the 3rd or 4th time I told them to put on their shoes and jackets.. This time I was able to catch myself before dropping the "F" bomb. The stress is making me crazy. I know this stuff happens, but why does it have to happen all at once???

I am going for a run the minute my husband walks through the door. I will update with my workout stats tonight.

EDIT

I did not run. I have caught the bug. I am going to bed.

Cocktails on a School Night

Cocktail Hour

Some days just require a drink to unwind from all the craziness. Betty Ford, here I come! Some days even Calgone can't take a girl away.

Some funky stomach virus has made its way into our house again. Three out of the 5 of us got it. I am still on the healthy team. Babydiva on the other hand is puking Linda Blair style. My parents were staying with us prior to them leaving on their vacation. I pray to all things holy that they remain healthy on their trip or I will never hear the end of it.

Expensive items in my house have decided it was their time to go to electronic heaven. My desktop completely crashed. It is gone.Dead. I of course did not back up all my photos and other files I needed. Thankfully most of them were on an external drive, but I did lose a bunch of stuff. I must remember to back them up every single time! My washing machine also decided to crap out mid-cycle. I am pretty sure it can be fixed, however I have to wait several days before the repair person can come. Not an ideal time to be without a washer....see the paragraph above.

The dog is still with us, but she had another episode. She could not stand or walk again. Today, she seems fine. I caught her on the couch, she had to jump up there somehow. Her legs are back to normal today. As I mentioned in a previous post, just when we think she is a goner, she bounces back. That is my "million dollar baby".

I know my post has a Debbie Downer tone to it, but really I think it is funny. When it rains it pours. All is not lost, I did have a great 2.25 mile run this evening. It was almost 50 degrees here and I do believe Spring is starting to come around. I have my cocktail in hand and I am kicking ass in Wii bowling. Life is good...even when it is crazy.

Wii are Having Fun!

Tonight we took a break from our regular routine of me surfing the web and my husband watching the latest news. We boxed, we golfed , and we bowled. I have to admit, it is kind of a workout. A friend that I work with told me she was sore after Wii bowling and I wondered how people could be sore just playing a video game. Well, I know exactly where she was coming from. I think I will be be looking for the Ben Gay to rub into my shoulders after tonight's marathon Wii session.

Before tonight I never wanted video games in this house, and I gave my parents the stink eye when they "scored" one for my 5 and 3 year old (I still think they are too young). But I think I have come around and I think I am somewhat addicted after the first night.

The whole family got involved. Above is my mother bowling.

As far as running goes, I did 2.25 miles today. Weather was great except for the slippery roads. Half marathon training starts tomorrow!

Oh....I am up to bowl. I have to go kick some Wii ass!

7 Things About Me

7 Things...
P.O.M tagged everyone who read her random details. Since I have nothing running related to write about today, here are my 7 things.

1. I ran my first marathon in 2001 with little training, weighing in at 200+ pounds, semi-hungover, and was a smoker. I finished about 5:30. I was sore for about a year. I don't recommend doing it that way.

2. I have to start my day at work with a large Americano from Caribou Coffee. The days I work, the guys in the coffee shop have it ready when they see me coming. Now that is service! I am a caffeine whore, that drink contains 4(!) shots of espresso.

3. I have had braces twice in my adult life and a nose job. Guess what? My teeth are not perfect and my nose is still crooked. I say it gives me a bit of character.

4. One of my best gal pals is also named Carly. Yes, we were products of the 70's and we were both named after Carly Simon.

5. My current job is in accounting and I am H-O-R-R-I-B-LE with math.

6. I have no problems changing poopie diapers, yet I cannot watch people brush their teeth or drink milk without getting a little sick to my stomach

7. I am allergic to chicken, turkey, shellfish, peaches, bananas, apricots, plums, pears, and a garden variety of environmental elements. Too bad I am not allergic to McDonald's, chocolate, or beer.

So now that you know all about me (not real exciting), I am tagging anyone who reads this.

That is all I have today. It is supposed to be nice the weekend and I plan on making the most of it.

Now I Understand Germaphobes

**SHUDDER**GAG**
Do you know that there are people in this world that visit the bathroom and do not wash their hands???? I just witnessed someone who walked out of a stall after flushing and proceeded to walk out without stopping by the sink to wash the off the skank. What the hell is wrong with people??!! Even my 5 and 3 year old boys know better. This is probably the same asshat who used the woman's shower room and didn't clean up after herself. I walked into a sink full of red toothpaste and stray hair. (INSERT DRY HEAVE HERE). People are pigs and I am beyond grossed out. Now I understand why people are obsessed with hand sanitizer. I know I will be thinking twice before eating anything during our next potluck.

Anyway, back to regular scheduled blogging about being fat and running....

I ran last night on the slippery slush and completed about 2 miles. I felt good about crossing it off the list. It was one of those runs where it took an act of God to get me out the door, but was happy and felt great when I was done. I was quite amazed that I didn't end up on my rear end with all the ice. Funny, considering earlier yesterday I did end up on my rear just walking on the sidewalk.

Today's gym adventure was a 2 mile treadmill walk. I broke a sweat at a 15:00/mile pace (is that laughing I hear?). In my best Forrest Gump voice, "That is all I have to say about that".

I GOT IN!!

Dear Carly,

Congratulations! You are officially registered for the 18th annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon on June 21, 2008. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Duluth, and providing you with a world-class race.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!
I just got my confirmation email saying I am fully registered. Now I really have to get my butt in gear and start training. I guess I will be paying another visit to my buddy Hal Hidgon. His training schedules have gotten me through several races. I will have to see what kind of half marathon training program he has to conquer this bad boy.

Truthfully, I am kind of shocked that my number came up. This is a very popular race and they do a random lottery to select participants. I have run Grandma's Marathon before, but I never done the half marathon. I have signed up several times and I have never been selected. FINALLY, I am in!

This race takes place in my hometown. If you have never run Grandma's Marathon, it should be one on your list. It is a great course and the post race festivities are really fun. I sound like I should work for Duluth tourism. I guess I better call my parents to let them know that I am staying with them and to start planning the post-race party.

A Special Note to the Man at the Gym Today

Dear Little Man at the Gym,

Thank you for deciding to do your workout on the treadmill next to me. I know you could have chosen any number of empty treadmills, but I am honored you picked the one that is right on top of mine.

I couldn't help but notice how nice you smell. Brut? Old Spice? Obsession? I can appreciate a man's need for "smellys", but do you really think it is necessary to bathe in it prior to a work out? I am not sure who you were trying to lure with your scent at 5:45 in the morning, but it was a little over the top. Unfortunately, I had to cut my workout short because I could taste your cologne.
Also, can you please tell me who sings "Sexy Back"? Yes, of course....it is Justin Timberlake. Lets keep it that way. You may THINK you sound like the one and only, but you sounded like you were making an obscene phone call. I love JT as much as you do, but I beg you, please don't ruin my fantasy man by murdering his songs.

In closing, I can appreciate a friendly, nice smelling man who loves JT, but get the hell away from me at the gym. Thanks.

Regards,
Carly

A New Month and a New Attitude

Woo Hoo March is here!!!!!! This means Spring is literally around the corner. I think the subzero weather is done (then again this is Minnesota) and things are going to start to thaw. March tends to be the snowiest month of the year. Snow I can deal with. This is the month where it is fun to play outside. The best part is, if we do get a 2 foot snowfall, it isn't long for this world (then again this is Minnesota).

I just came back from an almost 3 mile run. The sun was shining and it wasn't too cold. I made the trip in about 30 minutes. My knee held up pretty good but my muscles were screaming at me. I am going to try to get some stretching in today.

I am pretty sure my loving life attitude that I have at the moment is due to an empty house. My husband took the kidlets to his parents' house overnight. I miss my buggers, but I do enjoy my peace and quiet. There is no screaming, crying, or whining. I am in heaven. I only have about 3 hours left of my time so I better go enjoy it.
