Yesterday a tornado hit South Minneapolis. I work in that area and everyone in our building was sent to the evacuation area....we were instructed to go after it came and went. Lucky for us it did not hit our building. When I heard about what area was hit, I got a little worried because my children's daycare provider is right in that vicinity. I called and everyone was fine, no damage, and in fact they didn't know there was a storm.
I left work to pick up the kiddos and entered a war zone. Trees were down EVERYWHERE and the streets were flooded on parts of my route! It took me well over an hour to go 4 miles to pick up the kids. I was amazed because two blocks away from my day care providers house, there was nothing but chaos but her block was fine. You honestly would not have known a tornado just ripped through the neighborhood.
Today marks the eighth time going to the gym which fulfills my health rewards requirement for the month. It was an easy way to earn $20 and it was a painless way to get out of the office for an hour at lunch. Plus it is GREAT entertainment watching young college dudes show off to try and pick up chicks at the gym. I go just to watch this young fella kiss his muscles and admire himself in the mirror. It is better than any soap opera. ha!
You may recall from a prior post that I chose to participate in a research study about work/family balance. I have to do two things, wear a pedometer for seven consecutive day and then follow up with an interview. This is to be repeated 4 times. I had my first interview and wore my pedometer for 7 days. I was surprised to learn that I walk well over ten thousand steps in an average day without doing anything out of the ordinary. Makes me wonder why I am fat???!!! The interview was little over an hour and I was rewarded with a Target gift card.
I am down another 1.4lbs. Woo Hoo! I am inching closer to the weight I started the program at last year. What can I say...I am an overachiever.
That pretty much sums up the week. Tomorow back to the grind and counting down the minutes until the weekend!

- Last week I gained 7lbs. Yes, 7-FREAKIN'-POUNDS! My WeWa leader looked at me with horror and offered me a hug.
- I felt sorry for myself and named last weekend "the weekend of gluttony".
- I am back on track as of Monday and I had a little redemption at my meeting last night. I am down 3lbs.
- Diva turns 2 tomorrow. I can't believe how fast these last 2 years have gone by. I also can't believe I am still trying to use the "I just had a baby excuse". ha!
- I am a much happier person now that I am not training for this race. It added more stress than I thought it did.
- It has been almost a month since my last run. I am pretty much starting over again. I am OK with that. I am doing it for fun now.
- I have been to the gym 4 times this week. If I go 8 times in a month, I get $20 bucks. It is worth it considering my gym membership ends up costing 39.98 a YEAR if I meet that quota.

I quit, I am done, and I am not doing it anymore. I am talking about training for the Twin Cities Marathon on October 4th. I have officially decided to halt training and not complete the race. The decision was not an easy one to make. I have invested a lot of time and money already and quitting would be throwing it all away. I brought up the issue to Chubby Hubby and I saw his face light up. I knew I was making the right decision when he threw his arms up in the air and yelled HALLELUJAH!
I don't like to quit things and usually I have guilt pangs if I do not complete something that I have started. This time is different. My life circumstances have changed significantly in the last few months and training has had to take a back seat. Work and family eat up the majority of my time right now and I want to be around for them more. Following a training schedule has become stressful since it did cut into my time with my kids. I have already proven that I can run a marathon with little training, I don't need or want to do it again. . For now, I am taking a step back, getting into better shape, and focusing on running being fun again. I may revisit the idea in a few years but for now I am going to stick to shorter distances.
Now that I have that off my chest, I need to get to real important stuff.
There a very important issue that needs resolution.
