Resume Normal Activity as Tolerated

I am not sure what normal activity is but those were my instructions as I left my doctor's office on Wednesday. If it means getting up the morning after a medical procedure and going for a 3 mile run than I am normal. I felt great and still do. The only issue I had was some extreme heartburn which I think was reaction to some of the drugs I was on.

My momentum continued throughout the weekend. Friday and Saturday, BFF and I had our annual garage sale. We got rid of most of our baby stuff. *sniff* As sad as it is to see the teeny tiny stuff go, it didn't make me want another. Not even a little bit.

Here are a few pictures from our sale.

Let the games begin. BFF and I placed a bet to see who would sell our most hideous item first.....scary looking Santa or oversized Cherished Teddy on a sled. Sadly, neither one went. Any buyers interested?
Yummy lemon scones we had at the crack o' dawn

OMFG.....the nutritional information on said scones
Business was kind of slow...

So it was time for lunch.
Sweet pile of cash. Not worth the effort or time, but certainly a great time hanging out.

I had to leave the fun of the garage sale Saturday to shoot some wedding photos. Add 7 hours of camera lugging to the day and you end up with one exhausting weekend. Here it is Sunday and I am being summoned to Job #2 in a few hours and I am procrastinating a run. I need to just get out the door........

A Day in Doc's Office

Today was my "surgery". It ended up being more of a routine procedure done right in my docs office. I'll spare the details, but the procedure was to control an unruly monthly visitor.

My day started with a shot to the ass. The tech that gave me the shot was new in the office so I thought I would harass her a bit. When she stabbed me with the needle, I said "you could have at least bought me a drink first". She giggled and gave me snark right back. I have a great rapport with the people in this clinic because sadly I am there all. the. time.

When it came time for the big event. I was sitting on the table half nekkid wrapped in a paper drape when a few more people joined the party. My doc said, "You don't mind do ya, Carly?" I just replied dryly "the more the merrier, I love an audience but I will be pissed if I end up on You Tube". Seriously, there were 2 students taking notes, 2 doctors, the tech, and an ultrasound tech. I know that people say that you lose all modesty as you get older, I strongly disagree!!! I get so uncomfortable in these situations that I often make off color jokes. That is precisely what I did. It is not a good idea to try to be funny with people that are holding sharp objects.

The procedure went really well and it was really quick. Afterwards the doc warned that my face would "flush" as a reaction to the procedure. That was a gross understatement! I was tomato red.....and really really hot. Then came some itching, and then a few hives, then a lot of hives, and then the swollen lip, and then my throat got tight. I think you know where this was going....I was having an allergic reaction to something. Not just a little reaction this was full on anaphylaxis. My ass became a pin cushion at that point because I got a shot of Benedryl and a shot of Epinephrine. What a rush!

After the shots and when I was able to breathe again, the doc and I back-tracked to see what could have possibly been the cause. Turns out my shellfish allergy was most likely the culprit. They used Beta dyne to prep the area and as it turns out it is a derivative of shellfish. Funny thing is, I have never had a problem before today.

PSA: When the doc asks if you have any allergies, make sure you tell them EVERYTHING you are allergic to. I found out the hard way that many meds and dyes can be derived from shellfish. I also found out that they will not allow latex around me because of my banana allergy. Evidently the two products are linked somehow. My explanations are very vague because I don't know anything about the science behind it and I am too high on pain meds lazy to look it up. This is crazy stuff and things that I would have never thought to talk to my doc about.

I feel great tonight and I even went to my photography class. Thank God for pain meds! I got the thumbs up to run tomorrow if I feel up to it. I am going to give it a shot.

Speaking of running, I have been doing it throughout the week and was hoping to hit 20 miles for the week. I think I will be short but I am coming close to my goal. Marathon training officially starts on Sunday!

That is that. There is never a dull moment in my life.

Shifting Gears

In about a week my life will be doing a complete 180 degree turn. After 7 years of either being a stay at home mom or only working part-time, I am returning back to a 40 hour work week.

I wasn't looking to go back full time. This opportunity kind of fell into my lap. Our department is one of the only lucky places to have at least a temporary spike in funding to allow more manpower because of the massive mountain of work that needs to be completed. I will keep my job that is 20 hours a week and I will be adding another 20 hours doing a different job in my same department. Needless to say, it will be interesting trying to juggle my different roles. It is only a temporary job lasting 2-3 years, however, it was an opportunity I could not pass up.

The best part is my bosses are amazing! They are being unbelievably flexible with my schedule and 3 days out of the 5 I will be done in the early afternoon so I can do my mom duties of shuffling kids to and from school. The worst part about it is the cost of childcare for 3 kids! OUCH!!!! I am still coming out ahead but that expense is a great big bite out of my salary.

There are a few other benefits of me going back. I have access to a much better insurance and I will actually have MORE time carved out to be able to get my workouts in. The thing I am most excited about is NOT being in a car all day long driving back and forth to school.

I would be lying if I said I didn't have any anxiety about my decision. I feel guilty. Guilty that I am kind of looking forward to being around adults everyday and guilty that I am putting my kids into more daycare. I do know deep down that my kiddos will be just fine because they are hyper-social and LOVE being around people. Since we don't have a lot of kids in our neighborhood, this is a great way for them to be with their friends. I still will have plenty of quality time with them too.

I would love some tips on juggling a full time job with the rest of your life.

Other stuff....
I turned my resignation into my retail gig and they wouldn't accept it. They offered me to work 1 shift a week. They offered up a short Monday night shift. I fought it for a bit, then gave in. If it sucks, then I will really quit. Then I can keep the discount for a bit longer and I can have my one night of sanity while I quietly fold t-shirts. A little extra fun money would be nice too.

Next Wednesday is my surgery. It is very minor and to fix "female" stuff. I should be up and running the next day...or so they say.

Next weekend we are having a garage sale. I am arming myself with a camera. The people watching is amazing. I know I will have a great stories of people talking me down from a $.25 knicknack and people that come to steal things. I don't have the sales to make $$, my girlfriend and I get together to catch up and hang out. We start with some strong coffee in the morning and we switch to wine in the afternoon. Love it! We always have a great time and walk away with some of the most "WTF moments".

Hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend. Happy Memorial Day!

Stonyfield Farm Oikos Review

I finally found this product so here it goes.....

WTF????? Seriously, I better shit gold at this price!!! This is per container and if I didn't have a free coupon this would not be an item in my cart. I have a family of 5 to feed and one container of this yogurt costs about as much as a gallon of milk. Organic or not...simply not an affordable product.
Here it goes....I bought 2 containers. Honey and Plain. Those were my only two options.
I have to be honest, honey and yogurt don't make good visual.

I got me a Guinea pig to try it first

Diva will try anything! I appeared as though she liked it so I gave it a try. Now I am not huge on dairy but I went for it. The first bite of this stuff tasted like vomit. I kept going to give this stuff a fair shake. The texture was great. It was thick and creamy. The taste grew on me but left a bad after taste. Blech.
Diva loved it and I thought it was just good (not great). Nevertheless we finished the container.

She licked it clean!

The plain flavor I am going to make a Tzatziki sauce to put on some Greek burgers. I don't see me eating that stuff as is. I would need to doctor it up a bit. I seem to recall that others found this stuff in other flavors. Is that true? Maybe I am being too harsh as these flavors were not the greatest.

Overall, I don't think it is a bad product and I ended up liking the taste OK, but for the price I would never in million years buy it....unless of course it promised me I would be at my goal weight in 3 weeks.

Thank you to Stonyfield Farms for giving me the opportunity to review your product.

12 Years!

Chubby Hubby and I are celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary this weekend. I can't believe how fast time flies. It truly seems like just yesterday we were crazy college freshmen and now we are 35 years old, homeowners, minivan drivers, and parents 3 times over.

That was then....

This is now....
I have the BEST parents EVER! They booked a night in a hotel for us downtown Minneapolis as a mini-getaway. The stayed with the kiddos and we got to paint the town red.

Us at the light rail station on our way Downtown.
Chubby Hubby waiting to go out

???????

Drinks with Dinner
Stopped by to see a friend who was working and had another drink here
Amateur night is every Thursday in case anyone is interested in becoming a stripper
MORE DRINKS!
Oh look, I switched to Martinis. Um FYI....Beer + Martinis = Sick
Yes, we really are that lame. What you don't see is the clock. It reads 11:30PM and we are watching the news with our feet up. We really know how to live it up!
We got the opportunity to try out the sleep number bed...45 is my sleep number and I slept great!

We had a fabulous time! I can't thank my parents enough for the most awesome gift. We don't get out much because of our schedules. This was a real treat. As an added bonus, my brother's now ex-girlfriend gave us a free upgrade to a king suite on the club floor of the hotel. She works for that company and was able to hook us up. It was pretty sweet!

It was kind of a crazy week here at house but I did manage to get a few runs in this past week. I hope to run 6 days this upcoming week. I need to run that much to burn off all the empty calories from this weekend.

And the Winner's Are......

Drum roll.............

I didn't have a hat, so I used the next best thing....a Hot Wheels bike helmet.

Names were mixed up into the "hat"
With closed eyes (yes I really closed them) I drew the shown above.

Missy, Diana, and Jess are the lucky winners of the YaYa B Greek Seasoning.

Congratulations winners! Please shoot me an email at fatrunnergirl@yahoo.com with your address so I can mail these out right away.

------------------------------------

Last night I made the decision to get up an run this morning. I felt awful and didn't want to. I forced myself out the door and made myself run 2.2 miles. I feel like a million bucks now that it is over. I need to get into the habit of running in the morning because of my changing schedule. I am a morning person so there should be no excuse. Today was one of those good running days that prove that you almost always feel better after a run.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! Last night Chubby Hubby and I were watching SNL and saw this...

Warning....crass humor.

This made me spit my drink out. We damn near woke up the whole house up with our laughter. I got up this morning and wished my own mother a Happy Mother's Day by showing her this video. She only gasped in horror a couple of times but I think she got a kick out of it.

I celebrated my Mother's Day weekend with lots of junk food and drinks. There was not an ounce of exercise which I now regret. Back to the grind tomorrow.

Hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend. I will be drawing the winners of the YaYa B Greek Seasoning giveaway tomorrow.

Photo Friday and My First Giveaway!

First I would like to wish Chubby Hubby

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Photo Friday
Chubby Hubby called out to me last night and said "Carly, don't kill Diva in the morning". The following photos show off her latest artwork. SOMEHOW a pink crayon ended up in her bed....hmmmmm, I wonder how that happened. I had to grab my camera to document the damage caused by this terrorist toddler. She is going to be the one that kills me.

Now for my GIVEAWAY!
(Don't worry she is not the prize for my very first giveaway..........although the thought did cross my mind).

Not one, but THREE lucky people that leave comments will win a bottle of YaYa B Greek Seasoning.
Since the weather is finally nice in Minnesota and I have stopped bitching about the snow grilling season has begun, I wanted to giveaway one of my favorite things which is YaYa B Greek Seasoning. It is AMAZING! It is a staple in my cupboard and I would not dream of grilling without it. Vegetarian? I use it on veggies, pasta, and to make my own dressing. I use it on pretty much everything.

It is made and distributed by a local Minnesota family. For more information and some fantastic recipes, please check out their website and/or their fan site on Facebook.

Leave me a comment if are interested in winning. I will randomly draw the winning names on Monday.

Other junk
  • I go back to work full time on June 1st. I have a whole other post dedicated to that.
  • Sarge and I have recruited a bunch more people to run Twin Cities Marathon with us. It will be fun to have a big group.
  • Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd are coming to the Minnesota State Fair! I am getting tickets the second they open tomorrow! I love me some Kid Rock and is there a better song than Free Bird???? Music, mullets, and cheese curds!!! I can't wait.
  • Running is going well, but my mileage sucks ass. Nothing much to report there.
  • No review yet of the Oikos yogurt because I can't find the stuff....It is not at Super Target.
Have a great weekend and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Great Mail Day!

It was a big day for me mail today. Amanda from Run to the Finish held an Earth Day giveaway and I WON! I never win anything so I was super excited to win this Baggu Bag.

It came all folded up very tiny this (and it is my FAVORITE color!)

It opens up to be a pretty good size bag.

It even came with a mesh produce bag.

I know I will use this a lot especially since I am at the grocery store/Target pretty much everyday. Thank you again Amanda for the great give-a-way!

AND THEN...

A few weeks ago Kristina from Stonyfield Farms contacted me and asked if I would be interested in trying their new greek yogurt. I said heck yeah and she sent me some coupons. I just received them in the mail today so I am going to run out and get some. I will post a review when I try it. I have to admit, am kind of scared....I am not a huge dairy person so anything out of the ordinary skeeves me out a bit. Yes, this is out of the box for me. We shall see....worst case, I feed it to the kids. They will eat anything.

They even sent me a reuable bag. Woo Hoo! I will put it go good use.

I love getting treats in the mail. It is better than bills!

Today's workout was good but lame in the grand scheme of things. I ran 2.2 miles. I don't know my pace and my time was about 22 minutes give or take.... I took 3 mini walk breaks but pushed my pace hard when I was running. I can sure feel the few lbs that I put on while I was slacking.

While I was getting my Jack Bauer fix this evening, I did arm weights and a bunch of stretching. I was scared when I a saw a photo of my arms!

It is before 10:30 PM and I am going to hit my goal of going to bed at a reasonable time tonight.

AHHHHHHHHH..........

The weekend is DONE!

I am sitting here with an icing my aching feet and drinking a nice cold beer (make that plural). Normally I would not be happy about the weekend being done, but busy ones like this make me crave my weekly routine. This weekend was one for the record books.

Today's event was a hit. Our Parent Advisory Council put on a Mom's Retreat which is a day of fun and relaxation for women (unless you are working the event, in that case you run your ass off). It was fun and I got to do what I love, take photos. I did the photo booth as well as event photos. I got to also meet some local comedic talent, Darlene Westgor who won Nick at Nite's Funniest Mom in America and Miss Shannan another hysterical comedienne and local DJ.

One of the fun things that we had going on during the day was chair massages out on the deck. I took a 15 minute break and was able to take advantage of one. The massage therapist was appalled at the knots in my back. I moaned and groaned and made some really *ahem* interesting noises when she hit the painful spots in my back. But it felt soooo good! Chubby Hubby, if you are reading this a massage would be a GREAT Mother's Day gift (hint hint).

Yesterday ended up being great! While I was frantically in Tar-jay searching for church appropriate pants that fit my chubby butt, I received a phone call from the photographer that just 12 hours earlier was pleading for my help. She was calling to let me know that her regular assistant was miraculously feeling better and that she would not need my services. I felt a blow up coming on, afterall I did completely clear my schedule and rearrange my day to bail her ass out. Then came the wave of relief. To sum that feeling, I was "happy pissed" (Thanks Tana for a new word)

So with that off the agenda, I was able to celebrate Sarge's birthday by meeting up at Lake Harriet for a 5K and cake. Then later that night I met for dinner at one of the local restaurants where the party continued with good food and even better laughs. I was so happy to make it to the 5K portion because it got me excited to want to run again. Minneapolis has so many awesome places to run and seeing all the people running made me want to get out there.

So to sum up the weekend.....exhausting but fantastic. I back to my regular scheduled programming tomorrow.....(hopefully that will include a little bit of running).

I am off to catch up on my Google Reading. Holy moly....you people are writing maniacs.

Super Saturday!

First of all I would like to wish Sarge

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night at around 8:30pm I received a frantic phone call from a local photographer. She is doing a wedding today and her assistant is sick (I hope it isn't Swine oops I mean N1H1 Flu). She needed a 2nd shooter for this wedding. So I said, sorry, not my problem and it sucks to be you. I have plans and it doesn't involve a Bridezilla what time do you want me at the church? I wasn't going to do it but I guess I am a sucker for someone who is hyperventilating.

Tomorrow is the volunteer event that was 9 months in the making. I am doing event photos and working on the photo booth. It is a HUGE event and it is fun but a lot of work to put on. Remind me in September not to sign up to do this again. Note to self: do not let the PTA moms get me drunk.

I am really going to work on saying NO!

I wish I could take a snapshot of my state of mind to serve as a reminder of why I need to say no. I am bitter because all of the stuff I have been doing has been taking me away from what I really want to be doing and detouring my goals. I am crabby because I am spending too much of my precious time including my beauty sleep, working on this stuff. My fuse is short and I tend to blow up when I am distracted. I have only myself to blame and I don't like this person I am becoming. Sorry if that is negative, but I really needed to get it out. If things are not going to help me get to my goals, I am not doing them. Perhaps it is selfish of me but I need to get my groove back.

At least tonight I get to do something that I WANT to do and that is celebrate with my VERY old buddy Sarge. (Ha!)
