Three Confessions Thursday

TRAINING
My long run training runs are going really well.  My daily training runs are not going well at all.  In fact, I have gotten 2 done in the last 2 weeks (barely).  I have been substituting a Jillian workout in place of a run.  I know it is not the same, but at least it is something.  I have been consumed with work and baseball.

Today, I broke the cycle and ran with Diva in the stroller.  I did almost 5 miles but I had to walk quite a bit.  The stroller is a pain to push.   Thankfully the wild days are starting to calm down and I can resume a more normal schedule.

LAST NIGHT'S DINNER:
Last night I went out for dinner and drinks with my friend who is in town from Arizona.  We discussed our October marathon over burgers and martini's.  Dinner of champions!!!  We ordered the martini sampler.  Thankfully the pub is within walking distance!

Tonight's dinner was not much better.  Dairy Queen.  Who can pass up a Reese's Blizzard that is FREE???  I certainly can't.

LIFE:
I had today off of work and I got to spend it with Diva.  I started getting kind of sad because was really missing being home with the kids.  It has been one year since I have gone back to work full-time.  Today was the perfect summer day and it really made me miss the daily summer walks, afternoon trips to the pool, and playing outside.

As the day wore on, I realized I LOVE my kids but I don't miss staying at home.  We are all much happier with me working.  Am I awful for admitting this?

We did have a lot of fun today.   They boys were at their summer program so it was just Diva and I.  We don't get a lot of time to spend 1 on 1 so it was really nice to spend the day together.  She made a great coach on our run this morning as she kept barking "Wun Faster!!!"

Carly, I feel the same way about the work thing. I just wish it could be part-time, like 3 days a week... of course at my full pay!

Sounds like I need to borrow your daughter-I need someone to tell me to wun faster for sure!

That martini sampler looks amazing!!! When I was in Miami for the 1/2 marathon in January I had a beer flight that was good but I bet the martinis were even better!!! Miss Diva is too cute!!

You're not the only working mom that feels that way (by far).

And I spent two months mostly cross-training through a boot-camp style training program rather than running and increased my pace by 1 min/mile. So "just" doing a Jillian DVD is still good.

Hell no you're not awful..you're human. I'm a MUCH better mother when I'm not mothering full time.

yep. Kelley is dying to go back to work. Think she's going to start looking for a full time job next week. after 5 years at home with the girls she's had more than she can stand.

Being consumed with work is evil. Being consumed with baseball is genius.

Ummm. Which pub?

Your confessions are not bad at all! I am not letting you into my closet.

Nothing like a pub within walking distance!

Martini sampler? That looks like a really fun time!

Umm, Dairy Queen sounds amazing right now. Yum!

First? MMMMMM DQ blizzard....

Second? You are absolutely NOT awful for saying that. I stay home (because the logistics coupled with my puny salary made it make SENSE to stay home) but I was a much better mom when I was working. We all do the best we can with the cards we're dealt...

Kids need their away from Mom time too. It just makes it that much better when you do have 1 on 1 days.

I work full time, and LOVE my kids. Perhaps if all of us admitted it, we wouldn't feel so bad about it!

My name is Raza and I own a website called www.TheCoffeeMakerStore.com that sells coffee makers.

My wife is a dietitian so I thought it would be cool to create a widget that tells you how fat coffee makes you. It's based on the fact that your body will turn 3500 excess calories into a pound of fat. We noticed that the big coffee chains (Starbucks, DunkinDonuts, McDonald's, and Caribou) are coming out with all sorts of drinks, but people aren't always aware of how many calories they're consuming. Feel free to check it out below:

www.TheCoffeeMakerStore.com

Lots of people are trying to slim down for the summer, so I figured your readers would find it helpful. I'd love if you could mention it on your site (or Tweet it) and let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks!
Raza

Whoa! That martini sampler really caught my eye! Looks very tasty!

I have summers off and it never fails, by the 3rd day with my kids I break out the speech "I'm not going to spend my vacation listening to you 2 argue. You can spend the next 8 weeks in your rooms if you want!"

I think many, many moms feel teh same way. I am enjoying my extra time with Norah this summer, but I'm also looking forward to the fall when I return to work.

Can't believe how big your Diva is! Holy cats!

Great job getting in 5 with the stroller. I'm sure that was good marathon training whether you or not had to walk parts of it!

I understand the thing about working. Happens to me too. Bt then there are plenty of days I feel the opposite.

I keep threatening to go back to work for exactly that reason. ;o)

Love the looks of the sampler.

I feel the same way about staying at home vs. working. Although, since I have cut back to 4 days a week, I definitely feel much happier and it seems to be a better balance.

Glad your long runs are going well!

Glad you had a nice day, but you are not terrible for admitting you love to work. Personally, I find it very, very hard to be at home all of the time. (Secret: my kids go to daycare a couple of days a week so I can clean and shop without them during the school year. We are all happier, lol!)

It is hard to get in the daily runs, good for you for keeping up the long runs. I am doing 9 tomorrow if it doesn't storm!

We can always get back on track to continue living a healthy life. Check out the Essential Weight Loss Handbook that I am reading on how to maintain a healthier and sexier life and body. Good day!

Never EVER pass up a free Blizzard.

I cannot believe how big Diva is getting. I remember first reading your blog and she was just a baby...wow.

You'll be surprised at how much strength training will help your running. I did lots of Jill-like exercising when I was hurt last summer, and finished a 1/2 marathon with no problem on minimal running.

I'm a much better mom when I work as well, but I get the feeling.

mmm dairy queen. at least you are doing well with your long runs! i am the opposite usually... OK at getting in daily runs, suck at running long on the weekends. i hope coach diva is still getting on your case! ;)

Nope not at all, you are being honest! We have guilt no matter what we choose, you do what's best for your family and yourself!! Great job on the long runs, I found that they were most important in training for my half...the fact that you are cross training is great and it will totally help as well! Burgers, martini's, ice-cream, my kinda girl! Read my post about working and staying home: http://www.theunnaturalmother.com/2010/06/big-debate.html#comments

I think you'll enjoy it!
