I am not going to dwell on the fact that this should have been a race report. Part of me is a little sad but the other part is a bit relieved that I didn't complete the 13.1 journey. Since I have been medically forbidden from running this race, I did the next best thing....I volunteered. At the end of the day I was just as tired as if I did run. So here is my recap of volunteering.
The drive from Minneapolis to Duluth is typically a little over 2 hours. If you head north on the Friday before Grandma's Marathon, you can expect to spend over 3 hours in the car. We made it in 3 hours and 40 minutes. Carly's PSA: Get to Duluth before Friday on Grandma's Weekend otherwise you will face bumper to bumper traffic on I35.
We even had a little time to horse around before the first finishers came across the line. Kerri and I were both supposed to run the half marathon and both of us had to drop out. We were not going to leave until we had an action shot of crossing the finish line. Yes, people thought we were nuts. Eh...I figured I just paid $80 bucks for that picture.
I love working at the finish line because you get to experience a whole different side of the race. Being a back of the packer, my experience withe the finish line is I see tables being taken down and lots of people have already left the site. This time I got to get up close and personal with the winner!
I kept my eyes open for my blogosphere friends. I got a tap on the shoulder and it was Julie! It was so nice to finally meet her in person. She also introduced me to Derrek another local blogger. She did great despite the freezing weather! I looked for Bobbi, but with the crazy sea of people I didn't see her. I took a peek at her blog to see how she did and she had one hell of a PR! I ran into a bunch of other people that I knew as well. This is a huge event and it is fun to take part in any way. I may just have to do it again next year.
If you were up in Duluth, how was your weekend?
It was a busy busy weekend. I am dying I am so tired. I must collapse and try to catch up on some ZZzzzzzz.
